Modal Study - Robot Weldment

ANSWER THE QUESTION...

How is the system going to perform?

In order to have a basic understanding of the response behavior of the robot structure to the turbulent flow excitation force, Pitzer Consulting performed a number of studies to determine the deflection and primary mode shapes of the robot. To reduce the complexity of the exercise, we just performed a qualitative analysis in an effort to provide suggestions for the improved stiffness of the structure. Without readily available empirical data, doing a full-blown dynamic analysis wasn’t practical. The stiffness of the gimbal plates and the base plate was improved by increasing stiffener wall heights without causing interferences in the gimbal movement.
