Case Study: Process and Development

Mechanism Simulation

ANSWER THE QUESTION...

Can I reduce the number of expensive components and still maintain the same functionality?

In order to reduce the cost and increase the simplicity of the end product, we performed a study to determine if we could reduce the number of screw jacks for the leveling gimbal from three to two. By understanding the required degrees of freedom, we could determine the appropriate replacement connection. This particular study also checked the range of travel of the base of the tripod gimbal to properly size the bushing that resided there.
